I believe that I would rather use a 60-600mm Sport, than add my Extender 1.4x III to my EF 100-400L II IS. I love my EF 100-400L II IS, but believe that my Extender is a better partner for my EF 300/2.8L IS. The new 2X TC III works very well for me on the 500. I always found my images to be sharper when photographing without tc. I even send all this gear to sigma for adjustment, but still don't get such amazing results.
